Mary A. McFarland, educational consultant, lead an interactive presentation that provided insight into how primary sources can be used with the Teaching for Understanding (TfU) framework to elicit in-depth learning of subject matter content in elementary and secondary classrooms.
Women & War: Using Multi-Format Material to Teach-- Many Wars, Many Sources
Sheridan Harvey, reference specialist in women's studies at the Library of Congress, on how primary sources of different formats, ranging from photographs to audio and video sources, can be used to motivate students to investigate content more thoroughly while addressing various learning styles, including auditory and kinesthetic modalities.
Primary Sources in Differentiated Instruction
Mary McFarland, investigated how primary sources can move instruction beyond "surface coverage," and support the development of deeper understanding of content and processes through differentiated instruction, focusing on the needs of individual students.
